Journey to Master’s Childhood home at 4 Garpar Road

Sep 19, 2025

One of the most anticipated blessings of our upcoming pilgrimage to India will be the opportunity to visit the childhood home of our great Guru Paramhansa Yogananda on 4 Garpar Road in Kolkata. This sacred place is where Master as a child saint had some of his earliest visions, prayerful meditations, and visits with saints that illumined the young embers of his great devotion to Divine Mother, preparing him for his life’s work of spreading Kriya Yoga to the west and beyond.

As a young boy Master regularly spent many hours late into the night in prayer and deep communion with the divine in the attic of his home. Having lost his earthly mother at an early age, it was here that he experienced profound visions of Divine Mother, whose radiant presence comforted and guided him during this difficult time in his life.

“You are the one I have chosen to spread the message of Kriya Yoga in the West.” -Babaji

When Master as a young man received the vision of his future disciples in America, he became concerned about traveling to a land known for its materialism and scientific temperament. Soon one morning while in deep prayer in his attic, the deathless Babaji appeared to him and confirmed that he himself had commissioned Master to spread Kriya Yoga in the west and assured him that he would be divinely protected and guided in his holy mission.

Today the house has been lovingly preserved by Somnath (Master’s grandnephew) and his wife Sarita Ghosh, together they host devotees of Master’s from around the world.  Pilgrims are able to view sacred relics, family photographs, and experience the attic where Master prayed and communed with Divine Mother, allowing for a precious opportunity to tune into the divine vibrations of his youth, where divine friendship, visions, and sacred blessings radiate outward and into our lives, strengthening our own love and devotion for God and Guru.

Sincerely,
