A Gem in the Himalayas: Discovering Maharaj-ji’s Kainchi Dham
Sep 05, 2025Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, in the forested Kumaon Hills of Uttarakand, we will be visiting the Maharaj-ji’s famed ashram Kainchi Dham. A place known to attract devotees and seekers from around the world.
Maharaj-ji as he is lovingly called, also known as Neem Karoli Baba, was a great saint whose very presence changed and uplifted thousands of spiritual seekers. Many Western seekers found their lives completely transformed at his feet, among them was Ram Dass, the American author of “Be Here Now.”

Known for his simplicity, divine childlike joy, and boundless compassion for others, he guided devotees into deeper love for God through the path of selfless service and devotion. It is said that miracles often flowed naturally around him as acts of grace that revealed the nearness of God to those open to his light.
Kainchi Dham today continues to carry the Divine light of his living presence. Sitting in his ashram one may feel that the heart is being gently turned toward God, remembering Maharaj-ji’s simple but profound teaching: “Love everyone, serve everyone, remember God, tell the truth.”
