Kriya Yoga Initiation, May 8, Saturday 6:00pm
Please join us to learn about Kriya Yoga, a meditation technique that quickly accelerates one’s spiritual growth. It was first made widely known by Paramhansa Yogananda in his Autobiography of a Yogi. According to Yogananda, one Kriya, which takes about a half-minute, is equivalent to one year of natural spiritual growth.
According to Yogananda, Kriya is the most effective technique available to humankind today for reaching the goal of Yoga: union with the Divine.
Kriya Yoga is so effective because it works directly with the source of growth — the spiritual energy deep in our spines. All yoga techniques work with this energy, usually indirectly. Yoga postures, for example, can help open up the spinal channels, and balance the energy in the spine. Yoga breathing exercises can help to awaken that energy. The Kriya technique is much more direct. It helps the practitioner to control the life force by mentally drawing it up and down the spine, with awareness and will.
During this evening talk by Nayaswamis Devarshi and Maria Warner, you’ll learn not only about the history and effectiveness of Kriya, but also about the process and steps required for you to receive initiation into this sacred technique and path. Devarshi Warner is Ananda’s nationwide head Kriya Minister. He both offers Kriya initiation to qualified souls and manages Ananda’s entire Kriya program and initiations across the United States. He will be joined by his wife Maria. Both of them have been meditating and disciples of Yogananda for more than thirty years and are two of Ananda’s long-time members and most respected ministers and spiritual teachers.
We offer the original technique, as taught by Paramhansa Yogananda. Over the years Ananda has helped thousands of truthseekers all over the world to prepare for initiation into Kriya Yoga. We’ve seen that the practice of Kriya is infinitely more effective after the proper preparation and study of the Kriya teachings. Ananda’s Kriya Sangha offers extensive support to people in all stages of their Kriya practice.
Kriya Yoga Overview
Kriya Yoga is a meditation technique that quickly accelerates one's spiritual growth. It became widely known through Paramhansa Yogananda's Autobiography of a Yogi. According to Yogananda, Kriya is the most effective technique for reaching the goal of Yoga: union with the Divine.
Ananda has initiated thousands of seekers into Kriya Yoga for the last forty years. Its effectiveness has been proven in the lives of people from all walks of life, religions, and nationalities.
What is Kriya Yoga?
Kriya Yoga is an advanced technique for spiritual evolution that has been taught by enlightened sages for thousands of years. Part of the ancient science of Raja Yoga, it is mentioned by Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras and by Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita.
Kriya works by giving the practitioner Pranayama, or control of the life force. Through life force control, the yogi is able to overcome all the obstacles preventing union with the divine.
Paramhansa Yogananda taught Kriya Yoga as part of a spiritual path that includes other yoga practices and discipleship to the Kriya line of spiritual teachers, or gurus.
The Kriya technique itself is given after about one year of study and practice of the other techniques that are part of the path of Kriya Yoga. The Kriya technique is generally given through direct initiation from a qualified Kriya Yoga teacher, or acharya.
Origin of Kriya Yoga
Kriya Yoga is an ancient technique that was hidden in secrecy for many centuries. It was revived in 1861, when the great yogi Mahavatar Babaji taught the technique to his disciple Lahiri Mahasaya during their meeting in the Himalayas.
Kriya has been taught in an unbroken link of spiritual succession to this day. Paramhansa Yogananda personally authorized his disciple, Swami Kriyananda (founder of Ananda) to initiate qualified people into Kriya.Kriya Yoga Testimonials
